2 Corinthians 3:12-18

The late Erma Bombeck tells the story of a supermom – four times over in fact -- who did everything right. She was a faithful, practicing Roman Catholic. She kept a spotless home. She kept her husband happy. She kept their four children, ages two, five, eight and ten, well-fed and clothed. She always had a copy of Bishop Fulton Sheen’s latest book on the coffee table. “One day,” Bombeck writes,

Once upon a time, there was an elderly man who lived alone. Well, not really alone. He had a beloved dog named “Snooks.” The love between the man and his pet had deepened through the years, but both had begun to feel the pain and the burden of age.

Isaiah 40:28-31

I don’t know about you, but from time-to-time, I need a word from the Holy Bible which just downright feels good; a word which comforts more than challenges; a word which makes me feel good about myself, and about my relationship with the Almighty. There’s a single-frame Dennis the Menace comic which shows Dennis and his family leaving church.

"Expect the Unexpected"

Text: Luke 12:35-40

Acts 1:6-11

Recorded early in the Book of Acts is a curious event we’ve come to call “the ascension of Christ.” Luke tells us that forty days after His resurrection, Jesus had gathered some number of His disciples for what would turn out to be their last time together. The gospels reveal very little about those forty post-resurrection days beyond saying that Jesus showed Himself alive to many, and spoke about the Kingdom of God. At this final gathering, the disciples asked when Jesus would “restore the kingdom to Israel.”

"That Man Is Jesus"

Psalm 69:1-3,13-18

Presbyterian missionary Robert Kopp relates a story of a Chinese covert explaining why, in a nation so unsympathetic – and often hostile - toward Christianity, he became a Christian. Here’s his testimony: “My life was sinking deeper and deeper, as I was in a well. And all my efforts caused me to sink faster. Then I saw a vision.
